Farm Story
Alto El Vapor is a family-owned coffee project in Santa María de Dota, Costa Rica. Established in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project is led by Doña Mayra, her son, and two daughters. Its name is inspired by the mist that forms across the region’s high elevations, with parts of the farm reaching approximately 2,000 to 2,100 meters above sea level.
Approximately 90% of the property is dedicated to natural conservation. A spring located on the farm supplies water to part of the Santa María de Dota community, while the family’s conservation efforts help protect the surrounding flora and fauna.
Coffee is cultivated across elevations of approximately 1,800 to 2,100 masl. Rather than relying on monoculture, the farm follows a circular-economy approach and grows citrus fruits, bananas, root vegetables, and green vegetables alongside coffee.
